STINA
news agency

STINA is an independent news agency founded in 1991. It is based in Split (Croatia). The ultimate objective of the agency is reintegration of the information system in the region of former Yugoslavia through objective reporting, thus challenging numerous media that misused journalistic profession during the Balkan conflicts.
STINA is a renown and respectable independent agency in Croatia where only one other news agency, i.e. HINA, is operational but HINA is state-owned. STINA provides information to, and cooperates with, over 100 media from Croatia but also from the entire region of former Yugoslavia (Slovenia, BiH, Macedonia, FRY – that is, Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo). In addition, the agency has developed close cooperation with independent media from Eastern and Central Europe and former Soviet Union: Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Russia, Estonia, Ukraine, Bjelorus, Azerbeijan, Armenia, Georgia and Kyrgystan. And, quite expectedly, STINA has established links with certain media in the West, i.e. the USA, Austria, Switzerland and Germany.
STINA is thus effectively the strongest international corporation among the media in Croatia.
STINA has developed a network of correspondents in Croatia, BiH and other countries of former Yugoslavia as well as Central and Eastern Europe. The network comprises some 50 associates.
STINA publishes a daily service in Croatian that covers most significant events in Croatia while following events and developments in neighbouring BiH, primarily the Federation entity of BiH.
STINA also produces analyses, commentaries, interviews and reports for independent media users in the region of former Yugoslavia.
STINA has also set up a weekly service in English, covering Eastern and Central Europe and providing independent media with analytical texts on political, economic and other social issues.
STINA cooperates with radio stations such as Free Europe, DW, WDR, BBC, Swedish Radio, etc.
In total, STINA sources some 700 press releases a month, including news, texts, commentaries, etc.
STINA is also involved in special projects such as the service for refugees and elections service, and analysis of the Croatian media arena.
In conjunction with its partners, STINA is now initiating new projects including economic service, informative service on interethnic relations and audio-information service for broadcasters.
